Finali Mondiali wrapped up the Ferrari Challenge North America and global seasons. This year’s festivities took place at the Mugello circuit in Northern Italy, long-known as Ferrari’s home race circuit. In addition to racing activities, the event was a celebration of Ferrari on the 70th anniversary, held demonstrations of the Formula 1 Corse Clienti and Ferrari FXX program, and serve as the venue for the unveiling of the new Ferrari FXX-K Evo.
Ferrari South Bay’s racing arm, Scuderia Corsa, closed an incredible 2017 Ferrari Challenge season with numerous victories and podium finishes, including nine trophies, as well as a Ferrari Challenge North America title!
Taking top honors was Karl Williams, who closed out a tremendous season in the Coppa Shell category by securing the North American championship title, in addition to his 10 poles and nine wins. In the Trofeo Pirelli category, Cooper MacNeil finished third for the season . After repeatedly winning her category throughout the North American season, Lisa Clark added to her season by earning the World Ladies Cup. Martin Fuentes also took a podium during Friday’s Race One in Trofeo Pirelli, as well as a sixth-place during the World Final. A great weekend was also had by Michael Fassbender and Oscar Paredes Arroyo in their World Final debuts, including a fourth for Oscar in the 458 category. Scuderia Corsa as a whole, earned two Coppa Team titles during the weekend.
For team owner, Giacomo Mattioli, another championship season is a remarkable achievement.
“The Ferrari Challenge program has been the foundation of our racing activities for over 18 years,” stated Mattioli. “In 2017 we experienced our largest team ever and, besides the success, we enjoyed seeing the comradery among the drivers. We introduced the 488 Challenge but we are pleased to be able to continue the 458 program, as well as our Drivers Development program next year. I want to thank our drivers for their support and enthusiasm that fuel our passion. Forza Ferrari!”With the Ferrari Challenge season at a close, the team is already hard at work on their 2018 plans. Beginning with the first official test at Daytona on January 8, the schedule will feature eight races at some of the most storied circuits on the planet.
In addition to the racing action, the paddock served as a huge attraction. Many of the 40,000 plus spectators in attendance took advantage of photo ops with the Formula 1 cars, stocked up on Ferrari gear at the Ferrari Store, and even to collected autographs from Challenge drivers including actor, Michael Fassbender.
The weekend was then topped with even more racing excitement with the unveiling of the new FXX-K EVO. This model is the evolution of the car presented at the 2014 Finali Mondiali. Its boasts 1050-plus hp and hybrid technology derived from the experience gained in the Formula 1 and GT racing.
