The Ferrari 296 GTB and GTS, the latest addition to the brands mid-engined two seater lineup. Following the Berlinetta concept, comes a revolutionary new 120 degree V6 engine coupled with a plug-in electric motor to re-define driving pleasure and maximize performance.

The design of the 296 GTB is compact, modern, and with original lines. At 102.4” it has the shortest wheelbase of any Berlinetta of the last decade and sports some definitive design elements in a triumph of modernity. The rear hosts a ring-shaped flying buttress to shelter the engine compartment cover with a unique 3-dimmensional glass surface. The tail enhances the compact nature of the bodywork with a horizontal element that encloses the rear lights and underplays the integrated spoiler. The spoiler is active, inspired by the legendary La Ferrari, and works with a philosophy opposite of previous Berlinettas, aiming to boost downforce rather than reduce drag. The result is 100kg increase in rear downforce to better traction and driver confidence.

The Interior is built around a fully digital interface originally introduced in the SF90 Stradale, though with the 296 there is a more refined look. The instruments and controls prioritize the driver’s side, giving the passenger side a minimalist look with an optional display that enables the passenger to participate in the journey as codriver.

Located at the soul of the 296 GTB and GTS is a 120 degree angle V6, this revolutionary design allows for the turbochargers to be installed centrally, significantly reducing the engine’s overall footprint, and maximizing fluid flow through the intake, combustion chamber, and exhaust. Special care was taken to create the high-frequency notes of a naturally aspirated V12, ensuring the Ferrari soundtrack matches its performance. The 296 GTB is the first Ferrari road car to feature rear-wheel drive plug-in hybrid architecture. This electric motor communicates with the petrol powered unit via new TMA actuators, resulting in a maximum power output of 818hp. 0-100 km/h is dealt with in 2.9 seconds. This innovative partnership improves daily usability, and driver enjoyment by offering instant throttle response and repeatable performance.

The Ferrari 296 GTB and GTS are a glimpse into the brand’s future. Pulling inspiration from the late Berlinettas, the cooling ducts of the 1963 250LM, and building on innovations of more recent models such as the SF90 Stradale, all promises a driving experience worthy of its Cavallino badge.
